Serious security concerns in Karachi, recommendation of postponing municipal elections of sensitive institutions
The national security agencies have expressed serious security concerns regarding the local elections in Sindh and have recommended the Election Commission to postpone the election phase of January 15.
According to sources, a meeting of sensitive institutions was held in Karachi on Friday evening, in which serious concerns were expressed about the local body elections in Sindh.
The national security agencies informed the Election Commission about the proceedings of the meeting and briefed the officials of the Provincial Election Commission on the security concerns for the local body elections in Sindh.
It has been recommended by the institutions that the municipal elections on January 15 should be postponed.
According to the sources, 17 security threats in Sindh, including Karachi, were discussed in the meeting during the last one and a half months, and it was informed that the banned organization Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and Tehreek Taliban Pakistan (TTP) are in Karachi. Networks exist.
The institutions have informed the Election Commission of serious security concerns in the province.
IG Sindh has already complained about the lack of personnel for the election. IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon says that the Election Commission has declared a total of more than 6,500 polling stations in Karachi and Hyderabad as sensitive and 2,345 polling stations as the most sensitive. It should be noted that the Election Commission has decided to complete the second phase of the local body elections in the province on January 15, while rejecting the decision of the Sindh government.
